Rema Achieves Historic Milestone: 52 Weeks Atop Billboard US Afrobeats Chart with ‘Calm Down’
Nigerian sensation Rema has etched his name in history with his song ‘Calm Down’ spending an unprecedented 52 weeks at the pinnacle of the Billboard US Afrobeats chart.
Rema is at the forefront of the global expansion of Nigerian music, driven by his mega-hit ‘Calm Down,’ which has dominated charts across Europe, India, the Middle East, and North Africa.
In a groundbreaking achievement, ‘Calm Down,’ his international collaboration with Selena Gomez, has become the first song to rule the Billboard US Afrobeats Chart for an entire year. Released in February 2022 as a lead single from Rema’s debut album ‘Raves & Roses,’ the song has now logged an impressive 75 weeks on the Billboard Afrobeats Chart.
‘Calm Down’ has not only set numerous records for Nigerian music but also made its mark globally by reaching the third position on the Billboard Hot 100, following Hugh Masekala’s 1968 hit ‘Grazing In The Grass’ from South Africa.
The song’s accolades include an RIAA platinum plaque for its remarkable performance in the United States, where it also made history by topping the Billboard Pop Radio chart. ‘Calm Down’ reigns as the most-streamed Afrobeats track on Spotify and boasts the title of the most-watched Nigerian music video on YouTube.
Its recognition extends to nominations at the 2023 VMAs in the Collaboration of the Year category and anticipation for the forthcoming 2023 Headies award, where Rema is scheduled to deliver an electrifying performance.
