“Declan Rice” is set to debut in the top ten of next week’s Official Nigeria Top 100, set to become the first song by a Nigerian Hip-Hop/Rap artiste to launch in that region since Ladipoe’s “Running” with Fireboy DML (chart week of October 22 – 28, 2021).
The Official Nigeria Top 100 blends all-genre Nigeria streaming and radio airplay data using a 7-day Friday – Thursday tracking period.
According to projections from TMDA/Radiomonitor, “Decla Rice” (released under Native Records on Friday, March 24) could draw 40 million in radio reach and 1.5 million on-demand streams in its first full week of tracking.
If “Declan Rice” launches in the top ten, it would become first song by a Nigerian Hip-Hop/Rap artiste to start in that region since Ladipoe’s “Running” with Fireboy DML debuted at No. 5 during the chart week of October 22 – 28, 2021.
Black Sherif’s “Kwaku The Traveller” debuted at No. 1 on the weekly singles chart in 2022 – becoming the only Hip-Hop/Rap song to achieve the feat. Other Hip-Hop/Rap singles with a top ten debut by Nigerian rappers include “Need For Speed” by Olamide (No. 6 debut in 2021) and “Feeling” by Ladipoe (No. 5 debut in 2021).
Other rappers have had top ten debuts for singles that are not classified under Hip-Hop/Rap; “Back in Uni” by Blaqbonez & JAE5 is a recent example.
Next week’s Official Nigeria Top 100 will be revealed on Monday, April 3.
